TLDR Topical corticosteroids are the main treatment for Erosive Pustular Dermatosis, but recurrence is common after stopping treatment.
Erosive Pustular Dermatosis (EPD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder that primarily affects mature individuals and can lead to scarring alopecia. Risk factors include actinic damage and androgenetic alopecia, with a traumatic insult to the skin often being a trigger. The study reviewed 25 studies with 162 participants for the management of EPD. Topical corticosteroids, particularly clobetasol, were the most frequently used treatment, with most patients responding but recurrence often occurring after treatment cessation. Other treatments include Tacrolimus 0.1%, curettage-assisted aminolevulinic acid-photodynamic therapy, and systemic retinoids, but more robust studies are needed to solidify these recommendations. The quality of evidence was low due to the absence of a control group in most studies, lack of randomization, small sample size, and heterogeneity of results.
