TLDR Using a 308-nm excimer lamp with minoxidil promotes hair growth in Alopecia Areata patients, especially younger ones or those with smaller bald spots.
In 2020, a study involving 34 patients with Alopecia Areata (AA) found that a combination of a 308-nm excimer lamp and minoxidil was effective in promoting hair growth. The treatment led to a significant increase in the number and diameter of hairs on the treated side compared to the control side. The therapy was more effective in younger patients or those with smaller areas of lesions. Although the treatment did not prevent the appearance of new lesions, it was well-tolerated with no serious adverse events observed over a 12-week period. The study concluded that the 308-nm excimer lamp with minoxidil therapy is effective, well-tolerated, and economical, making it a viable treatment option for AA.
