Excimer Laser: A Module of the Alopecia Areata Common Protocol

    Amy McMichael
TLDR The excimer laser may help hair regrow in alopecia areata patients.
The study investigated the use of a 308-nm excimer laser for treating moderate-to-severe alopecia areata (AA), an autoimmune condition where T cells attack hair follicles. Known for treating psoriasis, the excimer laser was evaluated for its ability to induce T cell apoptosis. A double-blind, randomized, controlled study with 78 subjects across five U.S. sites assessed the treatment's safety and efficacy. Initial findings indicated that the excimer laser could promote hair regrowth in AA patients, but larger, multicenter trials were needed to confirm these results.
