TLDR Cyclohexyl salicylate may help hair growth and treat hair loss.
The study investigates the effects of cyclohexyl salicylate (CHS), an OR2A4/7 agonist, on human hair follicles ex vivo. CHS was found to delay catagen development and increase the expression of CD34 and CD71 mRNA, which are markers associated with hair follicle stem cells and their progeny. This suggests that CHS promotes hair growth by expanding the epithelial progenitor cells in hair follicles. The findings indicate that CHS could be a promising non-drug treatment for hair loss disorders, warranting further exploration. The study was conducted by researchers from various institutions, including QIMA Life Sciences and the University of Manchester.
