TLDR Jamogenin from plants may help hair growth and is a potential alternative to finasteride.
The study investigates the potential of phytochemicals as 5α-reductase inhibitors to promote hair growth, focusing on compounds from Urtica dioica, Serenoa repens, and Trigonella foenum-graecum. Using computational methods like molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations, six promising phytochemicals were identified, with jamogenin showing the most potential as a 5-AR inhibitor. Encapsulation of jamogenin in lipid nanoparticles enhanced its stability, suggesting it as a viable alternative to traditional treatments like finasteride, which have significant side effects. The study highlights jamogenin as a promising candidate for further research in hair growth promotion, though additional experimental studies are needed to confirm its efficacy and safety.

community We are manipulating our hormones, surely it's prudent to track bloodwork ?

      in Finasteride/Dutasteride  64 upvotes 1 year ago
The conversation discusses whether individuals using hair loss treatments like Dutasteride (Dut) or Finasteride (Fin) should regularly check their hormone levels through bloodwork. Some argue it's important to monitor the effects of these medications on hormone levels, while others believe it's unnecessary if there are no side effects, citing cost and practicality concerns.

community Andrew Schulz stated he had been using a ‘’hair pill’’ for 15 years and it may have caused him infertility

The conversation discusses the potential link between hair loss treatment pills, specifically finasteride, and infertility. Users share their experiences and opinions, with some suggesting that finasteride can temporarily lower sperm count, while others argue that other factors like age and lifestyle could also contribute to infertility.

community Why does it seem everyone favors finasteride over dutasteride?

in Female  62 upvotes 1 year ago
The conversation discusses preferences for hair loss treatments, specifically finasteride over dutasteride. Users share personal experiences, cost considerations, FDA approval status, and potential side effects, with some switching between treatments to find what works best for them.

community A hill on which I will die: The DHT itch absolutely exists

      in Research/Science  210 upvotes 1 year ago
The DHT itch is linked to hair loss and persists despite finasteride use; switching to dutasteride helped alleviate the itch and promoted regrowth. Some users suggest seborrheic dermatitis as a cause and recommend treatments like medicated shampoos, vitamin D, and minoxidil.
