March 2023 in “Journal of Ethnopharmacology” The study demonstrates that the Jieduquyuziyin prescription (JP), a traditional Chinese medicine, effectively alleviates systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) complicated by atherosclerosis in ApoE-/- mice. JP reduced hair loss, stabilized body weight, and alleviated kidney damage, while also decreasing urinary protein, autoantibodies, and inflammatory factors. It inhibited aortic plaque deposition, stimulated lipid metabolism, and increased the expression of genes regulating cholesterol efflux (ABCA1, ABCG1, SR-BI, PPAR-γ). Additionally, JP suppressed the TLR9/MyD88/NF-kB signaling pathway, reducing inflammation and foam cell formation in macrophages. These findings suggest JP's potential therapeutic role in treating SLE with atherosclerosis by promoting cholesterol efflux and inhibiting inflammatory pathways.

June 2024 in “Research Square (Research Square)” The study investigated the relationship between skin rash, complement levels, and the risk of lupus nephritis (LN) in 271 patients. Results showed that the absence of skin rash and low complement C3 levels were significantly associated with the occurrence of LN. Multifactor analysis confirmed that both factors were influential in the development of LN, with a combined predictive diagnostic value (AUC: 0.708, sensitivity: 0.83, specificity: 0.70). However, low levels of complement C3 and C4 were not significant in the progression of LN. The study concludes that the absence of skin rash and low complement C3 levels are risk factors for LN, while disease activity alone may not predict kidney function deterioration.
Lupus nephritis patients face more challenges in family planning, work, symptoms, medication, and quality of life than those without it.
