TLDR Castration and finasteride lower urinary oxalate in male rats, potentially treating urolithiasis.
The study investigated the effects of castration and finasteride on urinary oxalate excretion in male rats with urolithiasis. The results showed that both castration and finasteride administration had significant effects on urinary oxalate excretion. Castration and finasteride reduced urinary oxalate excretion in male rats, suggesting a potential treatment option for urolithiasis. The study suggests that dihydrotestosterone plays a role in the development of urolithiasis, a male-predominant disease. The study also found that male rats are more prone to kidney crystal deposition than female rats, and that testosterone can promote this deposition.
