TLDR Teucrium polium extracts are non-toxic and effectively speed up wound healing.
The study investigated the toxicity and wound healing properties of Teucrium polium L. subsp. geyrii Maire extracts in animal models. Acute toxicity tests on mice with doses up to 16 g/kg showed no significant toxic symptoms or mortality. Subacute toxicity tests on rats with daily doses of 500 and 1000 mg/kg for 28 days revealed no significant changes in body and organ weights, hematological or biochemical parameters, and no harmful histopathological changes in liver and kidney tissues. The wound healing activity was assessed on rats, with a 10% ointment of the plant extract showing enhanced healing after 14 days, and the callus extract ointment showing even better performance, reducing wound healing time to 11 days. The study concluded that Teucrium polium extracts are safe for repeated use and effectively promote wound healing by accelerating re-epithelialization.
