    GlossaryDouble-stranded RNA

molecule with two complementary RNA strands bound together

Double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) is a molecule consisting of two complementary strands of RNA that are bound together, similar to the structure of DNA. In biological systems, dsRNA is often a signal of viral infection, triggering immune responses in cells. It is also used in research and therapeutic applications, such as RNA interference (RNAi), to silence specific genes.
