TLDR Temporary hair shedding after minoxidil use may indicate effective treatment.
This retrospective study on 49 androgenetic alopecia patients examined the transient hair shedding phase after minoxidil treatment. It found that a temporary increase in hair shedding occurred within the first 12 weeks, more pronounced with 5% minoxidil than 2%. The severity of shedding was linked to improvements in hair density and diameter, particularly with 5% minoxidil, suggesting that this shedding phase may predict treatment efficacy. The study emphasizes the importance of patient education to enhance compliance and outcomes, as the shedding phase is temporary and may indicate positive treatment results.
