TLDR Activating Tgr5 may help treat hair loss and bone loss.
The study explored the effects of Tgr5 activation on alopecia areata (AA) and osteoporosis in mice, using 10 mice per group. Tgr5−/− mice showed significant hair loss and reduced bone mass compared to wild-type (WT) mice. Treatment with the Tgr5 agonist INT777 improved these conditions in WT mice, suggesting that Tgr5 activation could ameliorate AA and osteoporosis. The mechanism involved the down-regulation of the JAK1-STAT3 signaling pathway, which is typically up-regulated in AA. The study indicated that Tgr5 activation could be a potential therapeutic target for AA and related bone loss, although further research with larger sample sizes was recommended.
