TLDR Taurine may help reduce hair loss by improving hair growth cycles.
This study investigates the effects of taurine on dihydrotestosterone (DHT)-induced androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in male C57BL/6 mice. Taurine was found to significantly alleviate AGA by promoting the transition from the telogen to anagen phase of the hair follicle cycle, enhancing keratinocyte proliferation, reducing apoptosis, and downregulating the expression of androgen receptor (AR), TGF-β1, TGF-β2, and DKK1. These effects were particularly notable at higher doses of taurine. The study suggests that taurine, with its favorable safety profile and multi-targeted action, could be a promising therapeutic candidate for AGA, warranting further clinical investigation.
