TLDR Identified genes linked to male-pattern baldness may help develop new treatments.
This study on male-pattern baldness (MPB) used a transcriptome-wide association study (TWAS) to identify genetic associations and potential causality genes for different MPB types, analyzing data from 176,380 individuals of European ancestry. The study identified 10, 11, and 54 putative causality genes for MPB types 2, 3, and 4, respectively. Tissue-specific enrichment analysis revealed significant associations in various tissues, including adipose, blood/immune, and musculoskeletal/connective tissues. Functional enrichment and phenome-wide association studies (PheWAS) explored biological processes and traits linked to MPB-associated genes. The study also identified potential drug candidates, such as curcumin and succinic acid, for treating MPB, providing new insights into the genetic mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets for MPB.

A 16-year-old diagnosed with male pattern baldness (MPB) was prescribed hair vitamins, vitamin D, a non-ketoconazole shampoo, and redenysl + serum, with a suggestion for GFC or IHRF treatments. Some users recommended minoxidil, ketoconazole, and derma stamping, while others advised against certain treatments until the age of 18.

The user is seeking advice on treating male pattern baldness (MPB) while dealing with seborrheic dermatitis, specifically asking about the use of finasteride (Fin) and minoxidil (Min). They are concerned about side effects and are looking for recommendations to improve overall hair thickness, especially on the crown.

community Going to try and reverse MPB naturally.

in Treatment  55 upvotes 2 years ago
A user is trying to reverse male pattern baldness (MPB) naturally by taking high doses of Vitamin D, improving diet, exercising, reducing stress, and other lifestyle changes, but plans to use finasteride if no results are seen in 60 days. Other users are skeptical, advising medical treatments like finasteride and warning against potential vitamin D overdose and the ineffectiveness of natural remedies for genetic hair loss.
