TLDR ATP and IL-10 levels in hair follicles relate to follicle length and hair growth, with differences in alopecia patients.
The study analyzed ATP, IL-6, and IL-10 concentrations in plucked hair follicles from healthy individuals and patients with androgenetic alopecia. It found that ATP and IL-10 levels were related to follicle length and hair growth factors, with IL-10 levels higher in shorter follicles (<1 mm) and ATP levels higher in longer follicles (>2 mm) in alopecia patients. ATP levels correlated with cell damage, and IL-6 levels did not vary with follicle length. The study used ELISA and RT-PCR to confirm moderate gene expression levels of IL-6 and IL-10.
