TLDR The new minoxidil hydrogel improves delivery and is safe for treating hair loss.
The study investigates a new formulation of minoxidil using chitosan and hyaluronic acid to create minoxidil-loaded nanoparticles (MIN-NPs) for treating androgenic alopecia. These nanoparticles were incorporated into a hydrogel to enhance topical delivery and reduce side effects. The MIN-NPs showed a suitable size for application and allowed prolonged drug release for up to 24 hours. Ex vivo tests revealed that the MIN-NP hydrogel had twice the permeability of a simple MIN hydrogel, with an enhancement ratio of 2.09. Fluorescent studies confirmed increased permeability across the skin barrier. In vivo tests showed no skin irritation, indicating the formulation's safety for treating androgenic alopecia.
