TLDR MEF/KSF-conditioned medium effectively grows mouse hair follicle stem cells with bone-forming potential.
The study investigated the in vitro culture and osteogenic differentiation potential of mouse hair follicle stem cells using different culture systems. It was found that hair follicle-derived stem cells cultured in mouse embryonic fibroblast (MEF)/keratinocyte serum-free medium (KSF)-conditioned medium exhibited the highest proliferative ability and stronger osteogenic differentiation potential compared to non-induced groups. These cells, derived from the hair follicle dermal papilla, demonstrated biological characteristics similar to dermal papilla cells, suggesting that MEF/KSF-conditioned medium was an effective method for amplifying hair follicle-derived mesenchymal stem cells with osteogenic potential.
