TLDR Certain long non-coding RNAs are important for the growth of hair follicles in Inner Mongolian cashmere goats.
This study investigated the role of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in the development of hair follicles in Inner Mongolian cashmere goats by analyzing their expression profiles at different embryonic stages (45, 55, 65, and 75 days). A total of 6,630 lncRNAs were identified, and interaction pairs were predicted between lncRNAs, miRNAs, and mRNAs, resulting in 516 lncRNA-mRNA, 1,011 lncRNA-miRNA, and 7,411 miRNA-mRNA pairs. The target genes were found to be mainly enriched in the Wnt and PI3K-Akt signaling pathways, which are crucial for hair follicle development. The study also demonstrated that lncRNA MSTRG.1705.1 could bind to Chi-miR-1, suggesting a regulatory role in gene expression related to hair follicle development. This research provides insight into the molecular mechanisms of hair follicle development and may contribute to understanding the regulation of cashmere hair follicle growth.
