TLDR PlncRNA-1 helps hair follicle stem cells grow and develop by controlling a specific cell signaling pathway.
The 2017 study explored how the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) PlncRNA-1 affects hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs). It was discovered that PlncRNA-1 is involved in the proliferation and differentiation of HFSCs by regulating the TGF-β1-mediated Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. When PlncRNA-1 was introduced into HFSCs, it increased the expression of TGF-β1, Wnt, and β-catenin, which in turn stimulated the cells' proliferation and differentiation. Conversely, the application of a TGF-β1 inhibitor, LY2109761, reversed these effects, indicating the importance of the TGF-β1 pathway in the process. The study did not specify the number of cells or participants involved.
