TLDR Home-use microneedles with 5% minoxidil are safe and effective for hair growth.
The study investigated the efficacy and safety of home-use microneedles for treating pattern hair loss in 29 patients divided into three groups: 5% minoxidil, home-use microneedle, and a combination of both. Over 6 months, significant improvement was observed in folliscope hair count but not in macrophotographic hair count. The investigator's global assessment (IGA) significantly increased in the 5% minoxidil group, while subject satisfaction improved in the combination group. Mild, transient pruritus was the only side effect reported. The study concluded that home-use microneedles combined with 5% minoxidil were as effective as 5% minoxidil alone and were safe for stimulating hair growth and enhancing transdermal delivery.
