TLDR A 0.5 mm microneedle depth is more effective for increasing hair density in treating hair loss.
This study investigated the effects of growth factor cocktail (GFC) treatment combined with microneedling at different depths in 11 androgenetic alopecia patients (6 males and 5 females). Over 3 months, patients received treatments every 2 weeks, with microneedle depths of 0.5 mm and 0.3 mm applied to different sides of the scalp. Results showed a significant increase in hair density and diameter, with the 0.5-mm depth leading to a 19 cm² increase in hair density compared to 12 cm² for the 0.3-mm depth. The increase in hair diameter was 2.6 μm for the 0.5-mm depth and 1.8 μm for the 0.3-mm depth, though the difference in diameter was not statistically significant. The study concluded that a microneedle depth of 0.5 mm was more effective for increasing hair density, but further research was needed to explore optimal microneedling depths.
