TLDR The growth factor cocktail with FGF9 significantly increased hair density and diameter in patients with androgenetic alopecia.
The study evaluated the efficacy of a growth factor cocktail (GFC) including fibroblast growth factor 9 (FGF9) on androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in 18 patients (9 males and 9 females). The treatment involved microneedling and was applied bi-weekly for 3 months. Results showed a significant increase in hair density (27.1/cm²) and hair diameter (2.7 μm) on the side treated with GFC including FGF9, compared to the normal saline side, which showed a 5.4/cm² increase in hair density and a -0.6 μm change in hair diameter. The GFC including FGF9 was more effective than ordinary GFC in increasing hair density. The treatment was deemed effective and safe, but further research was recommended to identify the most effective factors within the GFC.
