TLDR Platelet rich plasma is not proven as a treatment for hair loss despite some improvements.
In 2020, a study was conducted on 25 cases of both male and female pattern hair loss to evaluate the efficacy of platelet rich plasma (PRP) as a treatment. The results showed that 32% of patients saw very good improvement, 48% saw good improvement, 8% saw average improvement, and 12% saw poor improvement. Side effects included bruising in 8% of patients and pain in 12% of patients. After 4 months of treatment, the average hair count increased by 40% and the average hair shaft diameter increased by 56%. However, despite these promising results, the study concluded that PRP is not an evidence-based therapy for the treatment of alopecia.
