TLDR A new therapy using secretions from fetal cartilage cells shows promise for safe and effective hair regrowth.
The study introduces a novel cell-free regenerative therapy for hair loss using the secretome of human fetal cartilage progenitor cells (ShFCPC). ShFCPC is rich in extracellular matrix proteins and bioactive factors that enhance dermal papilla (DP) cell function, crucial for hair follicle regeneration. The therapy activates β-catenin signaling, improves epithelial-mesenchymal interactions, and promotes hair follicle germ formation. In vivo tests on nude mice and rats showed significant hair regrowth and improved follicle structure, outperforming minoxidil. ShFCPC demonstrated a 94.9% hair coverage compared to 44.7% in controls, with no observed toxicity, indicating its potential as a safe and effective treatment for hair loss.

      community Verteporfin and Microneedling

      in Treatments 1 year ago
Clinical studies by Dr. Barghouthi and Dr. Bloxham indicate that Verteporfin, when used with FUE and FUT hair transplantation methods, shows promise in hair follicle regeneration and minimal scarring due to its ability to inhibit Yes-associated protein (YAP). Microneedling at depths of 3-3.5mm, combined with Verteporfin, could potentially reactivate dormant follicles, although the optimal dosage and application method are still under investigation. Concerns remain about the DHT sensitivity of regenerated follicles, highlighting the need for further research to optimize trauma levels and Verteporfin concentrations to achieve effective and scar-free hair regeneration.

community No, Finasteride as a treatment for MPB was not an "accident"

      in Research/Science  107 upvotes 4 years ago
Finasteride was intentionally developed to treat BPH and later approved for male pattern baldness (MPB) due to its 5AR inhibition effects. The delay in MPB approval was due to concerns about off-label use for female hirsutism and the prioritization of treating a more debilitating condition.

community Dht kills hair, but no one says why?

      in Finasteride/Dutasteride  40 upvotes 2 months ago
DHT affects hair follicles, contributing to hair loss, but the exact mechanism is unclear. Treatments like finasteride and minoxidil are used to manage hair loss, though they may have side effects and varying effectiveness.
