December 2021 in “Vestnik Rossiĭskoĭ akademii meditsinskikh nauk / Rossiĭskaia akademiia meditsinskikh nauk” The study evaluated the effectiveness of personalized treatment of trace elements and vitamins in men with early-stage androgenic alopecia (AA) undergoing conservative therapy. Involving 100 participants, the research found that personalized supplementation significantly improved hair density and reduced hair loss. Specifically, there was an 8.3% increase in hair density in the frontal area and a 3% increase in the occipital area, with a 12.5% increase in hair diameter in the frontal area. Folate levels positively correlated with an increase in anagen phase hair, while selenium levels negatively correlated with hair density and anagen phase hair, suggesting a potentially negative effect of selenium supplementation. The study supports correcting folate and vitamin E deficiencies but advises caution with selenium supplementation in AA treatment.
July 2021 in “Journal of pharmaceutical research international” The study investigated the incidence of vitamin D deficiency in 163 female patients with female pattern hair loss (FPHL) at a tertiary care hospital in Karachi. The study found a significant association between vitamin D deficiency and factors such as education status, vitamin D intake over the past 6 months, and socioeconomic status. The findings suggested a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency among women with FPHL.
