TLDR People with alopecia areata had lower vitamin D levels, but these levels did not relate to how severe their condition was.
In the case control study conducted by Naidu and Baddireddy in 2020, they examined the serum vitamin D levels in 70 newly diagnosed cases of alopecia areata and compared them with 70 healthy controls. The results showed that serum Vitamin D levels were significantly lower in patients with alopecia areata than in the control group (p<0.05). However, there was no statistically significant relationship between serum 25-OH Vitamin D levels and the severity of the disease (p=0.06). Therefore, while the prevalence of serum 25 (OH) deficiency was significantly higher in the alopecia areata group, no significant relation was found with disease severity.
