TLDR Most women with depression in the study had low vitamin D levels.
The cross-sectional study conducted on 108 women over the age of fifteen who presented with symptoms of depression at primary health care centers in Iraq found that all participants had inadequate levels of serum 25(OH) D, with 79.1% being deficient and 20.9% having insufficient levels. This included 40 pregnant women. The study used a 25(OH) vitamin D ELISA kit for assessment and highlighted the potential association between vitamin D deficiency and depression in women. It also emphasized the role of family physicians in detecting and managing depression, suggesting that vitamin D supplementation could improve mood and health status in women.
