The Relationship Between Deficiency of Some Trace Elements, Oxidative Stress, Immunoglobulin E, and Vitamin A in Sheep Affected With Skin Diseases

    TLDR Sheep with skin diseases often have lower levels of certain trace elements and vitamin A, and higher oxidative stress and immunoglobulin E levels.
    In 2020, a study was conducted on 190 sheep, aged 2 ± 0.5 years, suffering from skin diseases in Menoufia Governorate. The study found that 58% of these animals were suffering from infectious causes, while the remaining 42% were associated with nutritional deficiencies. There was a significant decrease in the levels of zinc, copper, and vitamin A, as well as in alkaline phosphatase activity, compared to healthy animals. Conversely, there was a significant increase in catalase activity, Malondialdehyde level, and IgE level. The study concluded that there was a significant relationship between non-infectious skin affections and oxidative stress, some trace elements, vitamins, and immunoglobulin levels in sheep under field conditions.
