February 2023 in “Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology” The study involving 80 male patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and 60 healthy controls found that AGA patients had significantly higher leptin levels, lower Adpn/Lep ratios, and lower vitamin D levels. Insulin resistance was more prevalent in AGA patients, but no significant differences were observed in serum adiponectin, resistin, visfatin, and insulin levels between the groups. Decreased Adpn/Lep ratio and increased serum leptin level were identified as independent risk factors for AGA. The findings suggest that adipokine imbalance and vitamin D deficiency may play roles in the pathogenesis of AGA, and that addressing these factors could be beneficial in managing the condition.
