TLDR sPLA2-IIE is crucial for normal hair follicle structure and skin health.
The study investigated the expression and function of Group IIE phospholipase A2 (PLA2G2E) in mouse skin, revealing its high expression in the epidermis and hair follicles. Functional analysis showed that PLA2G2E was crucial for skin barrier function and hair follicle homeostasis. Mice lacking PLA2G2E exhibited impaired skin barrier function and abnormal hair follicle morphology. The enzyme was involved in lipid metabolism, producing free fatty acids and lysophospholipids essential for skin integrity. These findings underscored the importance of PLA2G2E in skin health and its potential as a therapeutic target for skin and hair disorders.
