TLDR A new topical finasteride gel using nanoparticles shows promise for safe and effective hair regrowth.
This study explores a novel topical formulation of finasteride (FNS) using hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles (HMSN) to enhance treatment for androgenetic alopecia (AGA). The research addresses the limitations of oral FNS, which can cause adverse effects, and the poor dermal permeability of existing topical formulations. By employing HMSN with a diameter of approximately 300 nm, the study demonstrates improved retention of FNS in the skin and hair follicles, leading to accelerated hair regrowth in an AGA mouse model. This approach offers a promising, safe, and effective treatment for AGA, highlighting the potential of nanocarriers in enhancing drug delivery to hair follicles.
