TLDR Finasteride-loaded nanogels are effective, safe, and improve drug absorption through the skin.
The study developed finasteride-loaded HPMC-based nanogels for transdermal delivery to improve drug absorption and bioavailability. The nanogels were synthesized using a free radical solution polymerization method and characterized through various tests, showing high yield (≈91%), efficient drug release at pH 5.5 and 7.4, and good skin permeation without irritation or toxicity. Characterization techniques confirmed their stability, homogeneity, and successful drug encapsulation. Ex vivo skin permeation studies and toxicity studies on rabbits indicated effective drug delivery and no significant adverse effects. The findings suggest these nanogels are a stable, effective, and biocompatible transdermal delivery system for finasteride, potentially enhancing patient compliance for long-term therapy. Future in vivo studies on humans are recommended.
