TLDR FGF5 spliceosomes inhibit rabbit hair growth by affecting gene expression.
This study examined the effects of alternative spliceosomes of the FGF5 gene (FGF5-X1, FGF5-X2, FGF5-X3) on hair follicle (HF) growth and development in rabbits. Overexpression of these spliceosomes in dermal papilla cells (DPCs) led to decreased expression of key regulatory genes (LEF1, CCND1, BCL2) and inhibited DPC proliferation, while knockdown had the opposite effect. FGF5-X1 and FGF5-X2 also increased TGFβ mRNA expression. The findings suggest that FGF5 spliceosomes inhibit HF growth by modulating gene expression, providing insights for potential hair growth treatments and improving rabbit wool production.
