TLDR Combining platelet-rich plasma therapy with low dose oral minoxidil improved hair growth in men with hair loss, with slightly higher satisfaction at the higher minoxidil dose.
This study assessed the effectiveness of combining platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy with two low doses of oral minoxidil (OM), 1.25 mg and 2.5 mg, in treating male androgenetic alopecia (MAGA). It involved 95 men aged 18-45 years, divided into two groups, with one group receiving 1.25 mg OM and the other 2.5 mg OM daily, both alongside PRP therapy, over a 6-month period. The results showed no statistically significant difference in hair count increase between the two groups, with Group A (1.25 mg OM) showing a 15.41% increase and Group B (2.5 mg OM) a 22.15% increase. However, patient satisfaction was significantly higher in Group B. The study suggests that the combination of low dose OM with PRP could be an alternative to finasteride or dutasteride for patients with MAGA, with a trend towards better satisfaction at the higher OM dose. The study calls for larger, long-term studies to confirm these findings.

Key treatments for hair preservation include minoxidil, finasteride/dutasteride, and microneedling, with additional options like specific shampoos, oils, biotin, zinc, tretinoin, clascoterone, and low-level laser therapy. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, reducing stress, and addressing nutrient deficiencies can also support hair health.

The post and conversation are about a user who made their own Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) for hair loss treatment at home, using their own blood and a centrifuge. The responses vary, with some users supporting the DIY approach to save money, others expressing concern about the safety and effectiveness of the method, and a few joking about the lengths people will go to combat hair loss.
