TLDR Thai people's hair density decreases with age and varies by scalp area, but hair thickness stays the same regardless of age or scalp area.
The study conducted by Kanchana Leerunyakul and Poonkiat Suchonwanit on 239 healthy Thai participants (79 males and 160 females) found that hair density varies by scalp site and decreases with age, with the highest density in the vertex area and a significant decrease in participants in their 60s. Hair diameter, however, remained consistent across different scalp sites and age groups. The research also indicated that Asians, including Thais, have lower hair densities compared to other ethnicities, but hair diameter was not influenced by sex or age. The study suggests that these variations should be considered in the diagnosis and treatment of hair loss, although further research with larger and more diverse samples is needed. The study's findings may not be generalizable to the entire Thai population as it was limited to a single tertiary care center.
