June 2025 in “Dermatologic Surgery” This study compared the efficacy and safety of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and growth factor concentrate (GFC) in treating male and female pattern hair loss. It involved 42 patients, with 25 receiving PRP and 17 receiving GFC, each undergoing three treatment sessions. Results indicated that GFC led to better outcomes in total hair count, shaft diameter, and Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) scores, with significant improvements after the second session. GFC also showed more bulbar enlargement, while PRP resulted in more erythema and angiogenesis. At 6 months, PRP demonstrated better hair diameter and GAIS scores, suggesting a more sustained effect. The study concludes that both treatments improve hair parameters, with GFC providing quick improvement and PRP offering long-term benefits, recommending sequential treatments for sustainable results.
