Retrospective Evaluation of the Application of Dutasteride, Unapproved by the FDA, for Male Pattern Baldness in Korea

In a randomized study, men treated with dutasteride for androgenetic alopecia experienced sexual adverse events at twice the rate of those on placebo during 24 weeks, but these events were mild, moderate, and resolved after treatment.

This study found that in Japanese male patients with androgenetic alopecia, dutasteride 0.5 mg daily over 52 weeks was associated with improvements in hair growth and appearance, with reported adverse events mostly mild.

In this systematic review, dutasteride may be more effective than finasteride for hair growth in men with androgenetic alopecia, but the comparative magnitude of this effect is highly uncertain.

This study found that dutasteride 0.5 mg was generally well-tolerated and led to overall improvement in male patients aged 18 to 41 with androgenic alopecia in a Korean clinical practice setting.
