TLDR Using finasteride or dutasteride may cause long-lasting erectile dysfunction.
The study found a link between persistent erectile dysfunction (PED) and the use of 5α-reductase inhibitors (5ARIs) finasteride and dutasteride. PED can persist for months or years after discontinuing the use of 5ARIs, and the incidence of PED is higher in men who use 5ARIs compared to those who do not. The risk was higher in those with a prior history of the condition, and longer exposure duration increased the risk of developing new ED and new low libido. Healthcare providers should inform patients of this potential risk.
