TLDR Finasteride's potential harms are hard to accurately measure.
This document discusses the challenges of accurately assessing the harms of finasteride, a drug used for male pattern hair loss and benign prostatic hyperplasia. The authors argue that meta-analysis may not be the best approach, as it can exclude important data and may not account for different types of scientific information. The authors also note that drug harms are not systematically assessed with the same rigor as drug benefits, and that accurate estimations of incidence and persistence of drug harms are clinically significant uncertainties.
