TLDR Low-dose finasteride may cause lasting sexual dysfunction and suicidal thoughts in young men.
This study analyzed adverse event reports from the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System to investigate the association between low-dose finasteride treatment and persistent sexual dysfunction (SD) and suicidal ideation (SI) in young men with androgenic alopecia. The study found a signal of disproportional reporting of SD and SI in association with exposure to low-dose finasteride, suggesting that low-dose finasteride may be associated with persistent SD and SI in young men. The study suggests that healthcare providers should be aware of these potential risks when prescribing finasteride to young men.
