Nonanal Stimulates Growth Factors via Cyclic Adenosine Monophosphate (cAMP) Signaling in Human Hair Follicle Dermal Papilla Cells
October 2020
in “International Journal of Molecular Sciences”
TLDR Nonanal from fruits and vegetables promotes hair growth by increasing growth factors.
The study found that nonanal, a compound found in various fruits and vegetables, can stimulate hair growth by activating cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) signaling in human hair follicle dermal papilla cells. Nonanal was found to increase the expression of growth factors such as insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and keratinocyte growth factor (KGF), which are important for hair growth. The study suggests that nonanal could be a potential therapeutic agent for hair loss.
