TLDR Scalp hair follicle culture has limits for testing minoxidil's hair growth effects.
This study aimed to determine if human scalp hair follicle organ culture is suitable for studying the effects of minoxidil as a hair growth enhancer. The study found that the human scalp hair follicle culture system has limitations in reproducing and dissecting minoxidil's hair-growth-promoting capacity in vivo. The authors suggest that future studies should take these limitations into account and consider using alternative methods, such as in vivo studies or the use of isolated hair follicle cells.
