TLDR Exosomes from stem cells help hair regrowth by activating a specific signaling pathway.
This study explored the impact of exosomes derived from umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells on hair regrowth in 20 C57BL/6J mice with androgenetic alopecia. The mice were divided into four groups, and those treated with exosomes showed significant improvements in hair length, diameter, and follicle number compared to the model group. The exosomes reduced androgen receptor expression and increased stemness-related proteins and cell proliferation markers, with the therapeutic effect linked to the upregulation of the RAS/ERK signaling pathway. These findings suggest that these exosomes could be a promising treatment strategy for androgenetic alopecia by modulating key signaling pathways involved in hair follicle development and maintenance.

Exosome treatment for hair loss, derived from umbilical cord stem cells, is being considered as an option before a hair transplant. Users discuss the need for ongoing maintenance and share experiences with different exosome sources, including plant-derived options.

Hair loss is linked to cellular physiology and the IGF-1 to TGF-B1 ratio, not just androgen sensitivity. The theory lacks evidence, while finasteride and minoxidil are effective treatments.
