Modern Concept of the Etiology and Pathogenesis of Androgenetic Alopecia

    The document reviewed recent scientific publications to analyze the etiology and pathogenesis of androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in both men and women. It highlighted that while the role of androgens on hair follicles in genetically predisposed individuals was well-established, recent studies also identified nonandrogenic factors such as oxidative stress, microinflammation, and fibrosis as significant in the disease's progression. These findings suggested that managing perifollicular microinflammation and apoptosis could potentially control hair miniaturization and improve treatment outcomes. The study concluded that further research into these nonandrogenic mechanisms was necessary to enhance treatment strategies for AGA.
