TLDR Autophagy helps control skin inflammation and cancer responses and regulates hair growth by affecting stem cell activity.
The study demonstrates that keratinocyte-specific ablation of the autophagy mediator Atg16l1 in mice leads to increased skin inflammation, heightened sensitivity to apoptosis, and enhanced tumor formation. These mice also show an earlier onset of hair follicle growth and expanded regenerative potential of hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs), including de novo hair follicle formation and improved wound healing. The findings suggest that autophagy in keratinocytes plays a crucial role in controlling skin inflammation and tumorigenesis while restraining HFSC activation by modulating apoptotic responses.

The conversation is about a user trying a new hair loss treatment, Ruxolitinib, alongside their existing regimen of finasteride, minoxidil, ketoconazole shampoo, and microneedling. They plan to apply Ruxolitinib to their temples daily for 1-2 months.

community Topical rapamycin, metformin, a-kg grow hair

      in Research/Science  14 upvotes 5 years ago
The conversation discusses the potential of topical rapamycin, metformin, and alpha-ketoglutarate (a-KG) for hair growth, with skepticism expressed about their effectiveness based on personal experience and existing use. It also mentions AICAR, known as cardarine or GW, which is not suitable for long-term use due to cancer risks in animal studies and its similarity to metformin.

community Is pp405 actually the cure ? Just how exciting is it ?

      in Research/Science  32 upvotes 1 month ago
PP405 is a promising hair growth stimulant but not a cure for advanced hair loss, as it may only help dormant follicles. Treatments like Minoxidil, Finasteride, and Dutasteride are discussed, with emphasis on early intervention for effectiveness.

      community Minoxidil actually reduces wrinkles

      in Research/Science  209 upvotes 1 year ago
Minoxidil may improve or worsen skin quality, with topical forms causing dryness and wrinkles, possibly due to alcohol content, while oral forms have fewer side effects. Some users consider using tretinoin to mitigate negative effects.
