TLDR All-trans-retinoic acid stops mink hair growth by affecting cell growth and causing cell death.
The study demonstrated that all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA) inhibited the growth of mink hair follicles and dermal papilla cells (DPCs) proliferation while inducing apoptosis in vitro. This effect was mediated through the TGF-β2/Smad2/3 signaling pathway. The administration of TGF-β type I and II receptor inhibitor (LY2109761) and Smad3 inhibitor (SIS3) partially reversed the negative effects of ATRA on cell viability and apoptosis. These findings provided insights into the molecular mechanisms of hair follicle growth regulation and potential directions for further research on hair growth and follicle cycle regeneration.
