TLDR Cell-mediated drug delivery systems improve skin disease treatment by using living cells for precise, prolonged, and less toxic therapy.
Cell-mediated drug delivery systems (CMDDS) are emerging as a promising approach for treating dermatologic diseases by utilizing living cells for targeted delivery and immunomodulation. These systems offer enhanced targeting precision, prolonged drug release, and reduced systemic toxicity, making them superior to conventional methods. CMDDS utilize various cell types, including immune cells and stem cells, to deliver therapeutic agents directly to diseased skin, improving treatment outcomes for conditions like psoriasis, melanoma, and vitiligo. Despite challenges such as cost, scalability, and regulatory compliance, CMDDS represent a significant advancement in precision dermatology, offering targeted and sustained therapy that could alleviate clinical and economic burdens associated with skin diseases.
