TLDR Finasteride and minoxidil mix works better for hair growth than minoxidil alone, with similar safety.
A study conducted in Thailand compared the efficacy and safety of a topical solution of 0.25% finasteride admixed with 3% minoxidil to a 3% minoxidil solution in treating male androgenetic alopecia. The study involved 40 men with AGA, and the primary efficacy endpoint was the change in hair density and hair diameter within a 1-cm diameter on the vertex at week 8, 16, and 24 assessed by trichoscopy. The study found that the FMX group was significantly superior to the MX group in increasing hair density and hair diameter at week 16 and 24, as well as in promoting hair growth at week 24. The study also found no significant difference in adverse events between the two groups.
