Topical Finasteride in the Treatment of Androgenic Alopecia: Preliminary Evaluations After a 16-Month Therapy Course

The study evaluated the use of topical finasteride in treating androgenic alopecia in 52 patients over a 16-month period. The results showed significant hair regrowth and balding area reduction, with no evidence of percutaneous absorption of finasteride or local/systemic untoward effects. The study suggests that topically delivered finasteride may be a rational therapeutic approach to androgen-related diseases.
