Low-level light therapy for hair loss was reported potentially effective alone or with standard treatments. A topical minoxidil-spironolactone gel produced clinical response in all patients, beating either agent alone. Intradermal 0.5% minoxidil injections in women improved terminal-to-vellus hair ratio and hair volume versus placebo. Italian androgenetic alopecia guidelines endorsed trichoscopy, topical minoxidil, antiandrogens and 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. A taxane survey in breast cancer patients found permanent hair loss more frequent after docetaxel than paclitaxel, with scalp cooling appearing protective. Platelet-rich plasma in alopecia areata showed only limited regrowth benefit while shifting lesional cytokines toward immune balance.

- Evaluation of platelet-rich plasma on hair regrowth and lesional T-cell cytokine expression in alopecia areata: A randomized observer-blinded, placebo-controlled, split-head pilot study In a 27-patient split-head trial, platelet-rich plasma gave only limited benefit in alopecia areata but shifted cytokines toward immune balance.
- Permanent hair loss associated with taxane chemotherapy use in breast cancer: A retrospective survey at two tertiary UK cancer centres In a 383-patient UK survey, permanent hair loss was reported by 23.3% after docetaxel versus 10.1% after paclitaxel; it was more frequent in postmenopausal women, and scalp cooling appeared protective in a small group.
- Infiltration of Mast Cells in Scalp Biopsies of Patients with Alopecia Areata or Androgenic Alopecia Versus Healthy Individuals: A Case-Control Study Scalp mast cell counts were significantly higher in alopecia areata and androgenetic alopecia patients than in healthy controls, increasing with age and severity.
