January 2009 in “한방재활의학과학회지” The study investigated the effects of Saengbal-eum-2 (Shengfa-yin-2), a hair care product with ten plant extracts, on hair regrowth and cytokine changes in C57BL/6 mice. Over 12 days, 18 female mice were treated with either 50% ethanol (control), 3% Minoxidil, or 30% Saengbal-eum-2 in 50% ethanol. Both Minoxidil and Saengbal-eum-2 groups showed earlier and faster hair regrowth compared to the control. EGF was moderately positive in hair follicles of both treatment groups, while IL-6 and IL-1β levels in skin tissue significantly decreased in the Saengbal-eum-2 group. TNF-α levels decreased in both treatment groups. The results suggested that Saengbal-eum-2 promotes hair growth and could be used for alopecia treatment, linked to EGF revelation and decreased IL-6, TNF-α, and IL-1β in skin tissue.
